Meet the Experts: Andrew Corrie, Technical Training Manager

Installer Blogs28 July 2025

Andrew Corrie has been in the plumbing and heating industry for over 35 years, starting his career as an apprentice and gaining extensive experience across both commercial and domestic sectors. From working on fault finding and service repairs in schools to residential properties, Andrew has built a diverse skill set that’s shaped his approach to training.

Over the years, Andrew has worked with a variety of large companies and contractors and has also spent time self-employed. His wealth of hands-on experience, combined with a passion for sharing knowledge, led him to move into training in 2010 — a path he’s continued ever since.

Since joining Ideal Heating’s Expert Academy two and a half years ago, Andrew has taken on the role of Technical Training Manager, focusing primarily on supporting customers in Scotland and the North of England. He provides in-depth training on Ideal Heating products, offering courses accredited by BPEC and City & Guilds, as well as working closely with colleges.

Andrew takes great pride in having introduced a range of Ideal Heating Commercial product training at Ideal Heating’s facility in Dalgety Bay, Fife.

“It’s been really rewarding to see the positive response from companies in Scotland,” he explains. “Historically, commercial engineers here had to travel to England for training. Having a centre in Scotland makes a real difference—it allows clients to get hands-on with the products and really understand them before they go out in the field.”

Face-to-face training is a key focus for Andrew. He firmly believes that while digital learning has its place, hands-on experience is crucial for understanding complex appliances and controls.

“When clients can physically see and work on the appliances, it gives them the confidence to install and maintain them effectively. Remote learning just doesn’t offer the same depth.”

Andrew was drawn to Ideal Heating because of its strong commitment to innovation and the opportunities it offers for both personal and professional growth. He values the company’s supportive culture and its dedication to equipping engineers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a rapidly evolving industry.

Beyond his professional life, Andrew enjoys spending time with his family and supporting his beloved Ayr United, where he holds a season ticket. Whether at home or away games, football remains a big part of his life—so much so that his wife jokingly refers to herself as a ‘football widow’!
