Being a Female Service Engineer at Ideal Heating
“I started working at Ideal Boilers in September 2009 as a Customer Services Representative. After a year, I was given the opportunity to move on to the Technical Support Team. In which time I spent five years in this role advising and diagnosing components on our products.
This role enabled me to adapt my knowledge and learn how boilers and systems thoroughly work. After going to a site with engineers to see repairs being carried out first-hand, I decided I wanted to develop and move to a more hands on role in the field working on the products. Following this, I soon began my training programme in order to qualify as a gas safe registered engineer.
This took me two years, and, through support, I was able to work around my job on the Technical Support Team whilst gaining this qualification which was really helpful. Once I was qualified, Ideal Boilers offered me an opportunity to become a Trainee Service Engineer through an internal Traineeship programme. This ensured I was working with engineers daily, going to site and gaining experience through the company which was invaluable.
While doing the traineeship, I attended various training days to broaden my knowledge even further. I also completed assignments that would make up my portfolio to showcase the experience I had gained. The traineeship was due to last two years, however after just 18 months I was deemed competent and became a full time Diagnostic Technician.
I now attend sites daily to repair and service boiler and system components. I enjoy this role due to the variety of jobs I undertake and the job satisfaction I gain from repairing boilers.
