Ideal Heating wins Green Apple Award for environmental best practice
We’re proud to announce that Ideal Heating has been recognised with a Silver Award in the Green Apple Awards recognising environmental best practice.
The award, in the Engineering and Manufacturing: Renewable Heat category, was presented at a ceremony at the House of Lords, with our Environmental Project Manager Steve Winn collecting the award on behalf of the company.
Steve was joined at the prestigious event by Helen Sprakes from ESL Energy & Environmental Consultants, who have supported our environmental journey for many years.
The Green Apple Awards recognise and promote environmental best practice around the world, celebrating organisations making a genuine difference to the environment. While we’re making headlines with major investments in low carbon heating technologies, these awards provide an opportunity to shine a light on the smaller, day-to-day initiatives that collectively make a significant environmental impact.
Behind the scenes, we’ve been working with partners to implement practical innovations that reduce our environmental footprint at our Hull headquarters.
For example, our cleaning contractor, ICS – a local Hull company – has introduced smart solutions, including an on-site dosing station for detergent concentrate, which is diluted for use on site. This approach reduces packaging waste and logistics costs while using more sustainable products.
ICS has also helped us reduce water consumption through technologies like i-mops, which use less water while maintaining high cleaning standards.
Our Green Apple Award recognises years of sustained environmental management, supported by our long-standing partnership with ESL Energy & Environmental Consultants.
We’ve maintained ISO 14001 environmental certification for 21 years, demonstrating consistent adherence to international environmental management standards. More recently, we’ve also achieved ISO 50001 certification for energy management and waste reduction.
These certifications aren’t just badges on the wall, but represent genuine operational improvements driven by environmental coordinators embedded across the business, who champion sustainable practices in their respective teams.
This recognition comes at an important time for Ideal Heating. As we invest heavily in developing the next generation of renewable heating technologies, we’re also ensuring our own operations reflect the environmental values we promote through our products.
From major R&D investments in heat pumps and other low carbon technologies, to practical innovations in how we manage our facilities, environmental responsibility is woven throughout our business.
The Green Apple Award celebrates these efforts and, importantly, encourages other companies across the engineering and manufacturing sectors to adopt similar practices.
