Meet the Experts: Rob Anderson, Technical Training Manager
Rob Anderson has worked in the plumbing, heating, and domestic gas industry for more than 26 years.
He began his career as an Apprentice Technical Engineer at British Gas, where he progressed into a Safety Assurance Engineer (SAE) role. This involved conducting carbon monoxide (CO) incident investigations on behalf of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and energy suppliers, as well as preparing expert witness reports for Coroners’ Courts.
Rob’s extensive industry experience also includes mentoring and training other engineers, a role he particularly enjoyed.
His passion for developing talent and sharing knowledge led him to join Crowcon Gas Detection Instruments in 2019, where he provided technical support and managed key national accounts.
During this time, he built relationships with training centres and frequently represented the company at industry events.
In 2022, Rob moved into education, taking up a lecturing role at Abingdon & Witney College in Oxfordshire.
Working at the College, he was responsible for designing and delivering a comprehensive gas curriculum for Level Three apprentices, focusing on practical skills and ensuring students were fully prepared for Gas Safe Registration.
Rob joined Ideal Heating’s Expert Academy in October 2024 as a Technical Training Manager.
Rob says, “This role allows me to stay at the forefront of industry developments while giving back to the trade.
“I’m passionate about helping the next generation of engineers thrive, whether they’re just starting out or already experienced professionals.”
Outside of work, Rob has been training in martial arts for over a decade. He jokingly describes himself as “hopeless at it” but enjoys the discipline, camaraderie, and challenges it brings.
He’s also an avid fan of Le Mans 24 hours endurance motorsport racing.
Rob is a registered engineering professional with the Engineering Council and an active IGEM (Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers) ambassador, championing carbon monoxide safety and awareness throughout the industry.
