What is Ideal InstallPro?
Heat pump installations are becoming increasingly popular in the UK, a country that is becoming more environmentally conscious. For heating engineers, this means heat pump installation is a profitable qualification to add to your skillset. But, becoming a trusted and reputable heat pump engineer requires more than just training and qualification.
You'll also need strong knowledge of the UK's heat pump regulations and be able to show your trustworthiness to potential customers through the Microgeneration Certification Scheme. Luckily, heat pump engineering success comes much more easily with Ideal InstallPro, courtesy of Dwellow.
Introducing InstallPro
InstallPro is an all-in-one umbrella scheme for heat pump installations, which allows you to register each installation under the Microgeneration Certification Scheme, which in turn gives you and your client access to heating grants such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS).
InstallPro also serves as a project estimation tool for you to calculate the time and costings of a heat pump installation, as well as a project tracker for your customer to monitor your progress, make payments and view MCS certificates.
What is the Microgeneration Certification Scheme?
The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is a quality assurance scheme for microgeneration installations such as solar panels, biomass boilers and, of course, heat pumps. Heat pumps installed in the UK must be designed and installed according to its standards in order to be eligible for government funding.
These standards include:
Using MCS-approved, correctly marked equipment
Ensuring high-quality, professional installation with appropriate materials and minimal noise/vibration
Installing metering and communication capabilities while maintaining data security
Correctly commissioning the system to confirm safety and performance.
Providing a comprehensive handover pack with full documentation
Explaining maintenance requirements
Registering the installation on the MCS database within 10 working days of commissioning
Ensuring personnel are competent and appropriately certified (e.g., F-GAS, Gas Safe).
What is an MCS Certificate?
An MCS certification is a quality assurance mark for renewable energy products and services, and all of our Ideal heat pumps have one. This means that their design meets the criteria set by MCS and makes them all eligible for government funding upon installation.
MCS certification can also be given to installers, and this requires joining a CTSI-approved consumer code scheme, completing an application process and passing an assessment.
Do you need an MCS Certificate to install a heat pump?
InstallPro offers an alternative to the lengthy MCS certification process, allowing you to skip the above steps and register installations for MCS without having a certification yourself. This gives the same BUS (and other grant) eligibility as if you had the certification yourself.
More Benefits of InstallPro
InstallPro does more than just make MCS accreditation easier. It’s also the perfect tool for engineers who love to be their own boss. Allowing you to set your own materials and labour rates, choose your own merchants and more, InstallPro gives you full autonomy while making the whole process easier, serving as a project estimation and project management tool.
How to Join Ideal InstallPro
To join the scheme, your company must be a registered limited company and provide key details, including VAT number (if applicable), operational regions, and mandated insurance (£2M Public Liability, £5M Employers' Liability), plus documents for vehicle insurance, Waste Carriers Licence, and Gas Safe registration.
Each installer must individually submit their Gas Safe details, Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) qualifications (training, manufacturer courses, installation photos), years of experience, and photos of Water Regulations and Unvented Cylinder qualifications. Electrician qualifications are also needed if applicable. Qualifications must be kept current via automated annual checks; failure to do so results in scheme suspension.
The Ideal Heating Expert Academy offers subsidised training support for obtaining or renewing qualifications. Installers must also provide a DBS certificate photo (if available) and bank details. Multiple installers can be registered under one company.
There are no additional subscriptions required, only your usual tools and a smartphone for the Dwellow Pro app. Onboarding is completed within one working day of receiving all documentation. App access is free, requiring only one installation per year to maintain access.
