FAQs

Questions about heating your home? We've got the answers.

  • How to choose a boiler for your home

At Ideal Heating, we have three main boiler types available, each best suited to a different property type.

Combi boilers are popular choices for many homeowners due to their ability to provide both heating and hot water on demand. They are best suited to small properties as they’re compact without additional tanks or cylinders. They’re less suited to large properties with a number of occupants, as they struggle to deliver hot water to more than one tap or showerhead at a time. They’re also best suited to homes with high water pressure.

A system boiler is recommended for larger homes with a high water demand, as they are able to store a large hot water supply in their boiler cylinder.

For older homes, a heat-only boiler may be suitable. However, this is only recommended for homes already fitted with this boiler type.

Our blog comparing these three boiler types can aid in your decision.

  • What are heat pumps for homes?

A heat pump draws in air from outside your home using a fan. This air is then passed over a special refrigerant fluid that has an exceptionally low boiling point, allowing it to absorb heat even from air that feels cool to us.

As the refrigerant turns into a gas, it is compressed, which significantly raises both its temperature and energy. This heat is then transferred to the water circulating through your heating system. Subsequently, the refrigerant condenses back into a liquid, ready to repeat the cycle.

Guide to Air Source Heat Pumps

  • Should I install a heat pump in my home?

There are a number of great benefits to installing a heat pump in your home. By reducing gas consumption, you decrease the carbon footprint of your home for more sustainable living, which is not only beneficial to you but also desirable to potential buyers when selling your home.

At around 400% efficient, our heat pumps cut down your home’s energy usage. In addition, as part of the government’s push toward carbon neutrality, you can receive up to £7,500 off the installation of your heat pump via the UK's Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
